Suggestions to improvising the system of Ayurveda

1.       What kind of development in the sector of Ayurveda Education do you desire in the coming decade?
Ans:
·         Everyone in the field claims that Ayurveda is getting popularized and there is a great future for Ayurveda but in fact the students who come out of the colleges each year are they really competent. A BAMS graduate has to work for a very least sary of 5000- 8000 rs per month. So there should be enough job opportunities to be created in both Pvt and govt sectors. Institutions should start placement cells.
·         The main lacuna of the Ayurveda doctors is the loss of confidence, low communication skills and inferiority complex.  So we have to start the personality development programs as well as programs to develop the communication skills.
·         Most of the colleges are running without any infrastructure like Hospital and adequate Faculty.  Many of the colleges show the number of Faculty in paper but their physical presence in the institute will not be there. Strict measure should be taken in this matter.
·         There should be enough Material in the syllabi to improve the clinical expertise of the doctors.
2.       In which area of Ayurveda education needs up gradation in your opinion? Your suggestion on syllabi, curricula pattern on examination of ug and PG programs.
Ans:
UG Program
·         Repetition of the subject matters should be removed from the Syllabi eg: Ashtanga hridaya sutra will get all the aspect of Panchakarma and again in final year panchakarma is a separate paper. In second prof. Charaka Nidana will study many diseases and again in Roga nidana and again in final year KC same will be studying. Kiyakala is a common topic in all the 3 prof.
·         Dravyaguna main importence should be given to the Identification of the drugs so such drugs should be introduced in the syllabi.
·         Rasa bhaishajya even though there is the introduction of modern equipment but nowhere in india this is used in the departments. Like capsule filling machine.
·         Kayachikitsa should be properly divided.
·         Practical knowledge of the modern laboratory and medical imaging techniques.
PG Program
·         Its high time to revise the PG Syllabi
·         A PG scholar who pass out doesn’t know how to develop a Case report for the publication. He doesn’t know how to write a research article.
·         These fellows have to do the further research in Ayurveda. And Ayush say that they have lots of research funds. But nowhere in india it is taught how write for a research grant.
·         PG Synopsis and thesis approval should be scrutinized very thoroughly.
·         A research data base should be made for prevent the duplication of the researches.
·         For the first three month only research methodology and Medical statistics should be taught for the PG’s. After that only the synopsis submission should be done.
·         All the PG centers which do not have full time guides ( Many are in paper or visiting in 2-4 days in a month), Animal house and a research Laboratory should be closed.

3.       What type of improvement do you expect in ayurveda Practitioner?
Ans:
·         They should be competent in the clinical aspects
·         Knowledge of Plants and their identification.
·         Recording of the clinical cases.
4.       What kind of Lacuna do you find in research in Ayurveda?
Ans:
·         There is not a valid Ayurveda Research methodology.
·         All the clinical trials are based on a single yoga/ drug / therapy on a Disease but it is not the right way it should be a combined therapy and should be evaluated.
·         There are no scoring scales in ayurveda till now we are borrowing the same from our counterpart so it’s the need of the time to develop valid ayurveda scoring methods.
·         Duplication of the studies can be prevented by starting a research data base and providing public access.

5.       Health tourism
Ans:
·         Health tourism is going in a wrong way. Because of this the science is getting bad name.
·         No need to introduce any course in this matter instead of this we can add some topics in the syllabi on the Health care management.
